Our eggshell membrane product is a natural, food-based source used as a byproduct from something traditionally seen as waste. The membrane is mechanically separated from the shells which is then partially hydrolyzed, blended, and grounded to its final powdered form. The partial hydrolysis of the eggshell membrane utilizes a gentle, enzymatic and environmentally friendly process (no harsh solvents or chemicals) that helps support nutrient absorption in the body.

Healthy collagen production is vital for many areas of health, including maintaining strong bones and connective tissue. Our natural eggshell membrane is high in protein and contains naturally occurring compounds like collagen, calcium and hyaluronic acid. These components have been extensively studied for their role in supporting joint health.

Human clinical studies have shown that our Vegetarian Collagen: Joint product may help to support the reduction of joint discomfort as well as protect cartilage breakdown. It has also been shown to be fast acting. Additional in vivo and in vitro studies support its anti-inflammatory mechanism of action by controlling pro-inflammatory substances and reducing levels of inflammatory markers.

Rapid Relief of Joint Discomfort

Our eggshell membrane has been shown in multiple human clinical studies to help protect healthy joints against joint discomfort and stiffness. In one human randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled and single-crossover study, a quick and prolonged improvement in discomfort and stiffness with eggshell membrane was evaluated using the Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC). WOMAC-stiffness scores at days 7 and 30 improved from baseline and were significantly lower in the control group compared to the placebo group while the discomfort score also improved from baseline. All WOMAC-based indices (total, discomfort, stiffness and function) were significantly lower in the control group compared to placebo.

Another single-center, open-label clinical study with 25 participants evaluated the safety and efficacy of eggshell membrane for the relief of discomfort and stiffness associated with knee pain. Eggshell membrane subjects exhibited a positive response from baseline at both 10 days and 30 days for composite discomfort and stiffness, as well as a reduction in algestic use. Similar results were reported in a smaller, prospective multicenter clinical study on knee and hip pain relief where physicians also rated 75% of the subjects having moderate to significant improvement from baseline after 60 days of eggshell membrane use while analgesic use dropped by day 30.

Helps Reduce Cartilage Degradation

Our eggshell membrane has been shown in multiple human clinical studies to also help protect healthy joints against cartilage degradation. In another single-center, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, parallel-group design study on 60 post-menopausal women, exercise-induced cartilage turnover was evaluated, as were reductions in joint discomfort and stiffness. Supplementation with eggshell membrane produced a significant response on CTX-II (collagen type II C-telopeptide, a biomarker of cartilage degradation) compared to placebo after both 1 and 2 weeks of exercise, as well as improved stiffness relief from exercise. The effect of exercise-induced cartilage turnover in addition to joint discomfort and stiffness was further studied in an 85 healthy persons single center, randomized, double blind and placebo controlled clinical trial. Cartilage turnover was evaluated using the biomarker c-terminal crosslinked telopeptide of type-II collagen (CTX-II) at weeks 1 and 2, and joint pain and stress was analyzed using questionnaires. CTX-II changes showed strong treatment effects of eggshell membrane compared to placebo after both 1 and 2 weeks of exercise. Immediate discomfort relief with eggshell membrane was shown starting at day 1, continuing through day 11. Recovery discomfort returned to resting levels for the intervention group by day 14, while levels remained high for the placebo group. Immediate stiffness similarly outperformed placebo at days 5, 7 and 11.
